The seniors came into the game on the back of six straight wins and they travelled down Montrose. The game was a very even affair with both sides looking dangerous at stages. The game was a very hard fought contest with alot of big challengers going in from both sides. The weather turned grey and so did Mt.Lilydale with the midfield missing Cic and Bonfa after suffering a groin strain. The home side capitalised on a Mt.Lilydale midfield error with the ball going forward, which looked off-side and the Montrose player slotted the ball into the side of the net to make the game 1-0.
The seniors then turned the game and made it a quicker pace and began to look more menacing when going forward. Bonfa returned and looked to support Tyler who was looking damaging. Sandro was starting to lift the midfield and the seniors looked to have the legs over Montrose. This showed with Sandro slotting home a nice long range effort into the far corner, giving ther keeper no chance. 1-1 with 8 minutes to go and the game was a very tense affair with the hard challengers continuing to come in thick and fast as Montrose were trying to hold on for a result. Tyler and Bonfa both broke free in the final stages of the game with Tyler hitiing the bar and Bonfa narrowly missing the far post. The game ended in a 1-1 draw and its fair to say that the seniors deserved the three points. Unlucky boys, but the seniors keep there unbeaten run onto 7 straight.
The reserves travelled down to Montrose this Sunday to try and get there season back on track. The game started well for the reserves and the team looked dangerous and were pressing Montrose into there own half.
But the game took a radical change with Mt.Lilydale turning the game into a clanger count! The first goal went to Montrose with the ball bouncing out of the keepers hands to be carried into the path of the Montrose forward who then had an open goal. The second was to turn the game onto its head with the Mt.Lilydale keeper charging at the Montrose player who then made contact with him for a penalty to the home team. They converted and made it 2-0 to Montrose.
The reserves continued to press and got one back and made the game interested with McCabe smashing a ripper long range effort from 22 yards out to smash the ball against the under side of the bar and cross the goal line, 2-1 Montrose.
The second half began and the reserves again started to put the game to Montrose and they came close to equalising with Pettinella hitting the post and a couple of chances going begging. Montrose then counter attacked and scored a freak goal to cement the points. The reserves continued to press and got the goal they deserved with Louie Ripepi tapping a goal into the net from the back post after Pettinella made a great run up the wing.
The game then looked to go either way as there was 10 minutes left, but it wasn't to be with the home side getting another lucky goal to finish off the contest and take the 3 points.
