2007 CUP R1: Seniors DEFEAT HAMTON PARK B

Reporter: Joe Drago

Mt. Lilydale Seniors 5 defeated Hampton Park Reserves 1

The first cup game of the season was finally upon us and after a stellar pre-season from the boys it has been built to be a successful season for Mt.Lilydale both on and off the field.

The Seniors travelled down to Hampton Park to play there Reserves in the first cup draw from group B.

The game started with Mt.Lilydale rushing the play and forcing Issy Sette's team of Hampton into rushed possession and hurried play, but the boys were shocked when the home team took the lead from a lob that looked a million to one chance of going in...and it did....i still dont know how! The lob came from deep in the far left corner and bounced inch perfect into the far post beating a shocked defence and D'Urbano in goal....but the boys responded in a brilliant fighting fashion with continued pressure on the home team and it resulted in the equalising goal that started with a flurry of passes and was finally tapped in by Vic. Half Time. The second half was Mt. Lilydale's for the taking, the fitness of the boys started to show and it wasn't long before Gianni smashed home a volley to make the score 2-1. The game then blew wide open with Sandro smashing home a header, followed by a brilliant run from Johhny Pig whose eventual shot hit an opponents leg and was ruled as an own goal.

Then Victor added the games fifth goal with a textbook header at the near post...Mt.Lilydale then continued to press to add some more to the scoreline..but it ended 5-1 to the Seniors.
