Seniors Almost Defeat Bayswater

The seniors came into the game vs Bayswater having lost 6-2 to them earlier on this year. The game was a massive ask for the seniors with Bayswater having lost there last game all the way back in Round 1, 2007. Which happened to be at our ground, against our team!

 

The game began very well with both sides looking dangerous and creating great opportunites, but both teams looked to lack the forward thrust to make a break through. Bayswater hit a free kick early against the upright and then Mt.Lilydale then also hit the woodwork with Sandro's backpost header, the first half ended 0-0.

 

The second half commenced with the Bayswater side looking a little shaky and with the seniors starting to take control of the midfield and the defence was looking rock solid! The seniors continued to press the Bayswater defence and looked the more promising side to score in the second half and they finally broke through in the 80th minute when Mt.Lilydale was awarded a free kick outside the box. Daniel Lombardi stepped up and placed the ball in the far right corner to leave the Bayswater keeper in no mans land and looking for answers!

 

The game then turned into a dogged battle with Bayswater looking for a equaliser and Mt.Lilydale looking to defend the lead and also finish the game off with another goal to give Bayswater there first defeat in 3 years. The seniors continued to press and were unlucky when Bonfa missed a crucial open goal. The game continued and the seniors were extremely unlucky when a missed cue clearance ended up somehow finding its way into the back of the net from a Bayswater corner. The game was then almost over with Bayswater surviving at the death to get a very lucky draw against the mighty goats! The game ended 1-1 overall and the goats were the first team to take points off Bayswater all year. Excellent game and effort boys!!!
