Round 14: Seniors Bayside Premier League

Seniors Salvage Draw

Mt Lilydale Old Collegians 3 - 3
Tyler Sonsini (1)

The seniors came into this home clash against Hampton Park, being fresh from a week off and coming from an inspiring performance against Bayswater. The game was to be played in excellent conditions with the pitch looking more like the Goat Park of the future and the weather was prime.

The game began is a bizarre fashion and it looked like the seniors were still in the dressing rooms when Hampton Park took full control of the game in the early stages. The possesion count took it's toll with Hampton Park opening the scoring in the first 10 minutes with an easy finish. The seniors still looked asleep and it was 5 minutes later and Hampton added another to there score sheet to lead 2-0 after 20 minutes. The game then sprung to life with the seniors finally realising that they had to play soccer and they lifted, but the game looked lost when a Hampton Park counter attack ended up with a penalty to the away side after some slack marking in the box. The penalty was taken and was placed nicely for what looked like a 3-0 game winning lead.

The Goat spirit came to life after the penalty and the midfield of Cic, Gianni and Sandro started to dominate the middle and the seniors responded in quick fashion with a scramble goal to Gianni in the box from a corner. 3-1.

The seniors were still on top throughout the game but the 2 goal buffer looked too much for the home side, until Gianni popped up again with a great strike to make the score 3-2 with minutes to play in the first half. The half ended 3-2 to Hampton Park and all the momentum was with the Goats!

Second half began and it was a very tight struggle for possesion with both sides creating multiple chances but not converting. The seniors looked on top but the constant threat of the Hampton Park counter attack was putting the seniors on the back foot. The game was finally all tied up when Tyler took on the last defender and slotted home nicely past the keeper to make the game an even 3-3 with about 15 minutes to play. The game was to be a stalemate with the contest finishing 3-3 and a great game from both sides but who know's, if the seniors were up and about early it could of been a rout!!!
