Round 1 Mt Lilydale Seniors vs Trojan Athletic Seniors

Round 1

After the reserves demolishing in the first game the main danger for the senior boys was complacency, coming into there Round 1 clash. There was no complacency shown as they ran out 8-1 winners in front of a bumper crowd at Goat Park.

With Damien DiMartino leading out the senior side as captain again, the boys were keen to get off to a good start and pick up where the reserves left off, it didn't take long for Mt Lilydale to assert some early dominance and except for some wasteful finishing in front of goal Mt Lilydale could have had the game wrapped up within the first 20mins.

Jesse Pignataro scored his first of what he hopes will be many with a fine finish at the near post, but Trojan Athletic got a soft goal before half-time and it showed a ray of hope to the away team.

In hot conditions Mt Lilydale pressed on in the second half and ran out worthy winners with the central midfield trio of Chic, Sandro and Josh an attacking threat throughout.

Special mention to Louie Pettinella reserves golden boot last year getting a double and new boy Timmy scoring a brace in his first game for the club and he could have easily have had many more.

As Gianni did for the reserves scoring a hat-trick Tyler was able to add to his goal in the first in scoring two penalties one won by Josh after being brought down and winning one himself to complete his first hat-trick for the club.

A great first up win for the boys and we have now taken our first step in reaching the aim of promotion to the Premier League.

Special mention to a massive crowd. Great to see the carpark full and the stand packed, thanks for all your support and look forward to seeing you all again for our next home game on the 9th of May!!
