In another fantastic result for both teams Mt Lilydale has done the double over their opposition Thornbury with a 2-1 and 2-0 win for reserves and seniors today.

Reserves

Firstly the reserves were looking to get out of a bit of a rut with two dissapointing results in the last two games.

Thornbury started the game well and took an early lead with a long ball catching the defence of guard, the reserves looked a little flat footed and a spark was needed to get them into the game. That came late in the first half when Ralphy got the ball out wide and took on his defender and hit an unstopable shot which sailed over the keepers head from wide on the right, just the spark the team needed after a lackluster first half.

The second half started alot better with the midfield gaining control of the game and a fantastic goal was just rewards for their opening to the half.  A fantastic team goal started with the midfield playing a ball out wide to Drago who control and back heeled too ralph who played a excellent ball to the back post, where Choida picked it up first time and smashed an unstoppable shoot to send the Goats up 2-1, fantastic team play and an interesting ZOOMBA dance celebrating by Chioda to top it off!!!

The score stayed 2-1 as the reserves held on to run out deserved winners, to get there season back on track. Well  done boys!!!

Special mention to Salmon in goal who with some fantastic keeping kept the side in it at half time, aswell as some signs of real quality from Ralph and Chioda on the wing with his work rate, great effort lads.

Seniors

Now to the Senior game were after the result of last week the boys were determined to contunie there unbeaten run but as early play proved early on Thornbury were nothing like we had played this season!!

A tough grind in the first 45mins were both sides had decent chances to open the deadlock, but with the game starting to get a bit niggly the boys were determined at half time to take the game out, and early injury to Jesse to his hamstring allowed for Joey to come on and play a pivotal role in closing down there dangerous wingbacks and captain of their side.

Second half the goats were able to grind out a fantastic win thanks to 2 stunning goals from Josh, firstly after a hand ball was given on the edge of the box Josh was able to blast home a well placed free kick to open the scoring then late on to seal the win with another stunning left foot shot to put the result to bed!!!

A ripper result for a tough battle out there for the side with a well organised and spirited Thornbury side proving diffucult opposition, but the boys were able to stick to their guns and get the result they deserved to keep the unbeaten run going!!
