easter report
MLOSC must be very happy with their season after three rounds. A team that wasn't considered competitive before the start of the seaon has shown, both on and off the field that the future is bright for the goats (and now pig) at Quarry Road.
Although the season did get off to an embarasing start thanks to a thumping from Croydon, things have started to look good with several signs that the seasons will be successful.
The reserves have started very competetively, and although they are yet to register a win, they have provided some excellent curtain raisers for the crowd with goal feasts in each of their games.
The seniors have also proved to be competitive, although they have not shown the goal scoring power that the reserves have.......maybe Ernie Lando deserves a call-up. With a mid-table position and with a win, draw and loss to our name, MLOCSC should look at pushing for the top half of the ladder by mid-season. The team morale is very high with the players firmly believing that they can beat any team on the day.
Probably the biggest plus that MLOCSC has for the rest of the season is the room for improvement. With several of the ressies showing that they want a spot in the firsts, competition for positions will be instense. With Cic and Mergs, holding the defense well after a slow starts, the class of Notaro in the middle and Johnny "Workhorse" Pignataro up front, forming the base of the team. We also have two class goalkeepers in Covino and D'Urbano......the latter unlucky to be dropped, but Covino has not put a foot wrong since getting his chance. WIth several senior players still playing below par, the players training attandance very high and great respect from the players for both Bruno and Tom as coaches, the opportunity to improve is massive.
Oh, I also forgot that Daniel Lombardi will be back next year, so 2007 also looks promising.
Go Goats!.
Mt Lilydale Joins Bayside League
Mt. Lilydale Old Collegians Soccer Club has only been established for about 4 months now. In that time we have established a home base, hard-working committee, excellent comitted coach and several sponsors. In addition, MLOCSC has gathered a great bunch of players, and committed family members, which is producing a great social environment for all involved. On top of all that MLOSC have have been given the vote of confidence from all member clubs to join the Bayside Premier League, which is of very high standard for an amatuer club.
"Its now only weeks away from the start of a very promising year for the Bayside League. The Premier League was introduce last season with great success, and this season could once again be a sizzling experience as no team looking to have an distinctive advantage. Joining the Premier League for 2006 are three clubs. Bayswater Strikers, Peninsula and Mt Lilydale Old Collegians. The club that has a big question mark surrounding them is newly formed Mt Lilydale Old Collegians. They have got the nod to move straight into the Premier League - truth been told with a bit of reluctance - as Endeavour Sports failed to meet the Feb 24th deadline for teams entry. Still, Endeavour where not even sure they can field two teams and with Mt Lilydale Old Collegians impressive presentation in their bid to join the league plus the fact they are wanting to gain access to the Premier League, the league committee has decided to give the club a go. As mentioned before with a bit of reluctance only because its like putting somebody straight into the deep end of the pool. It is certainly hoped they can do themselves and the league proud this season."
